Peta-gay Chen Ledbetter
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated with my family as a little girl to the United States. We spent one very cold winter in New York and then quickly moved to South Florida where I spend my childhood and started college. My son was the firstborn grandchild in America.
My husband, Chris and I met at a fundraising gala for the Houston Area Women’s Center, which offers free services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our kids are grown, one is a firefighter and one will be a Registered Nurse. We are proud to be firm believers and followers of Christ, as a family. As a family, we give back to our community through volunteerism and in our professional careers.
My professional career started as a Registered Nurse, moving on to a Master’s in Counseling and then a dual PHD in Educational Psychology and in Individual Differences. My professional career choices have always been as a direct result of being a sexual assault survivor and wanting to help others in their journey to recovery and wholeness by helping those I meet to heal.
I believe that this has carried on to my children who are just as involved as we are in fundraising, raising awareness of multiple issues and trying to help to heal others. This is something that my family and I will continue to do as the opportunities arise. We do many 5K walks and even skydive as a family.
